Backed-up Toilet Leads To Hardwood Floor Removal and Drywall Removal

This home in Delafield, WI recently experienced a backed-up toilet that caused significant water damage.  Even though the homeowner thought that the damage was minimal, they were instructed by their insurance agent to have the water professionals out to inspect it and make sure.  The customer called on SERVPRO of SW Waukesha County and during the initial scope, the customer was shown how severe the damage actually was.

As this was a sewage water (aka Category 3 water) intrusion, that tells us that any porous material (that is, absorbs moisture) must be removed.  SERVPRO was able to show the customer that the baseboards, hardwood flooring, and drywall were all affected.  Even though the customer initially thought that the damage was not so bad, he was happy that he called on SERVPRO to learn how bad it actually was and that it was taken care of correctly.

The before photo shows the hardwood floor in the hallway.  It is hard to see in the photo the warping that occurred, but it could be felt with your shoe on and a moisture meter was able to prove the amount of moisture that was in that wood.  The after photo shows the hallway after the hardwood floor and the contaminated drywall was removed.  This photo also shows the specialty drying equipment used to dry out the remaining affected structure.

If you experience water damage in your home or business, call on the trained and certified professionals who have the knowledge, experience and proper equipment to dry out your structure "Like it never even happened."  Call SERVPRO of SW Waukesha County 262-542-0900
