Waukesha Home Experiences Water Damage From Slow Leak Behind Wash Machine

This water damage occurred in a laundry room of a Waukesha, WI home.  There was a slow leak behind the discharge drain inside the wall.  Due to the location, this went undiscovered for an undetermined amount of time.  It wasn't until the owner began smelling mold that they called in the certified water restoration technicians at SERVPRO of SW Waukesha County.

The first photo shows the laundry room in its normal state; looking nice and clean.  After assessing the moisture migration using the appropriate, state-of-the-art equipment, SERVPRO was able to determine that the drywall, the floor and subfloor were completely saturated.

After determining all what needed to be done, the washer and dryer were disconnected and moved. Plastic containment was hung to protect the rest of the home from the potential of cross-contamination. The affected baseboards, flooring and underlayment were removed due to water damage and black growth.  The drywall was cut out due to extensive black growth behind the drywall.  After all contaminated materials were removed, the entire room was HEPA vaccuumed to remove any mold spores that may have fallen onto horizontal surfaces.  Then all remaining materials in the affected area were sprayed with an anti-microbial.
