Asbestos Abatement

3/29/2017 (Permalink)

This is vinyl flooring that tested positive for asbestos.

SERVPRO of Southwest Waukesha County now offers Asbestos Abatement Services

WHAT IS ASBESTOS?

Asbestos refers to a set of six naturally occurring fibrous minerals, which when disturbed, can lead to a variety of health complications for those affected.

WHO CAN HANDLE ASBESTOS REMOVAL?

Because of the potential health risks, only those vendors trained and certified by the State of Wisconsin are allowed to remove asbestos within our state.

WHERE CAN ASBESTOS BE FOUND?

Because the health risks of asbestos were not fully realized until 1977, any residential or commercial building built before that year are likely to have asbestos materials in them. Many builders even continued to use these materials even after that point. Many materials in structures today still test positive for asbestos.

Materials that often test positive for asbestos include, but are not limited to:

-Thermal Insulation

-Pipe Wrap

-HVAC Duct Wrap

-Floor Tile

-Sheets of Flooring

HOW DO I GET A MATERIAL TESTED?

Call us SERVPRO of Southwest Waukesha County at (262) 542-0900. Only a licensed asbestos inspector can take an asbestos sample. Doing so personally could cause a threat to whoever is taking the sample and cause the building owner to incur unwanted liability.

WHAT IS THE NEXT STEP IF THE TEST IS POSITIVE FOR ASBESTOS?

Our trained and certified asbestos workers will talk with the property owner and map out and execute a plan of safe and proper disposal. That cooperates with state mandates.
